Shakers must wait on Nicky Adams

BURY director Ian Harrop has said he expects Nicky Adams to make a decision on his Gigg Lane future by the end of the week.

The Bolton-born winger is out of contract at the end of the month and has been strongly linked with a move to local rivals Rochdale.

Adams is a wanted man after scoring 13 goals last season but is weighing up his options, with several clubs having monitored his progress over the final few months of the campaign.

Harrop remains "fairly confident" that Adams will follow other out-of-contract players Glynn Hurst, Brian Barry-Murphy, Cameron Belford and David Buchanan and commit his immediate future to the Shakers.

"Nicky is using his prerogative and has got until the end of June to tell us what he plans to do. I have got no problem with him doing that," the director said.

"This club has made Nicky a very good offer which to me shows just how much we want to keep him.

"We are rewarding Nicky for an excellent season in which he has grown as a player, and we would like him to continue his improvement here next season but ultimately it is down to him."

Bury boss Alan Knill returns from holiday next week to continue his recruitment plans and, depending on Adams' decision, could move to bring a left-sided midfielder in on loan.

He has already confirmed an interest in Gillingham defender Efe Sodje and is close to signing Mansfield Town's combative midfielder Stephen Dawson.

"It will be all go when I get back," the manager said last week. "I have got a few players in mind and we have got a few things to sort out with the ones out of contract who we had last season.

"All along we had a list of players we wanted to sign, and a list that we would go for if any of our players didn't sign their contract. We have got plenty of irons in the fire.

"Pre-season starts on July 1 so I want to have the majority of the squad in place by then."
