Care home revamp unveiled

A BURY care home has unveiled a £425,000 new look as well as a new name.

New mayor, Councillor Peter Ashworth, was the main guest when Burrswood House, previously called Chestnut Court, hosted an official opening ceremony last Friday after a major refurbishment programme.

The revamp, funded by BUPA, was part of the company's drive to improve standards in the care home sector for older people.

Joining the mayor at the home in Newton Street was the mayoress, Mrs Dorrie Burgess, together with residents, relatives and staff. Entertainment was provided by local folk group, The Dodgers and magician Phillip Partridge.

Lorraine McDonnell, Burrswood House's housekeeper, was awarded a £100 prize for coming up with the new name for the care home, having taken inspiration from nearby Burrs Country Park.

The investment has meant that a large number of facilities have been upgraded. Along with new flooring and redecoration, Burrswood House has also upgraded all bathrooms. The living areas have been provided with new flat screen plasma televisions.

The dementia unit at the home now has a patio extension and French doors from the garden to the lounge, providing plenty of sunshine and views of the garden.
