Fun day raised cash despite abandoned match

RAIN stopped play during Unsworth Cricket Club's family fun day.

It had been hoped to stage a lads v dads cricket match on Bank Holiday Monday but Sunday's torrential rain left the ground waterlogged, forcing officials to abandon the game to protect the wicket.

However, a whole host of other attractions, including a welly throwing competition, a penalty shoot-out, bouncy castles and pony rides, together with a collection of stalls and sideshows, ensured the 300 visitors were entertained throughout the day.

The event is expected to raise over £1,000 for the club in Pole Lane.

The money will be used to buy new kit and equipment for the junior teams and help to maintain the ground.
