Teenager killed on M60 at Whitefield

A 16-year-old boy has died after attemping to cross the M60 motorway at Whitefield.

Police were called to Junction 17 at 7.30pm yesterday after the teenager had been in collision with a car.

He was taken to Fairfield General hospital where he later died.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident as it is currently unclear as to why he was on the motorway.

The boy, believed to be from Burnley, was wearing a black hooded jumper with a red top underneath, black jogging bottoms and black trainers. He was seen walking towards the motorway from the Bury New Road roundabout.

If anyone saw him on the roundabout or witnessed the collision on the motorway, please contact the Road Policing Unit on 0161 856 1550.
